Atwood Park is open every day year-round from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm, and welcomes the public to visit and explore the many miles of hiking and multi-use trails within the scenic 334-acre park. Where history and recreation come together, Atwood Park was part of a WWI military training camp. Visitors can view remnant structures of Camp Grant and the Civilian Conservation Corps in several areas in the park.

Open Saturdays: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Atwood Center is also open to the public every Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Staff is on hand with a wealth of knowledge to share about the park and its rich history, as well as about its animal inhabitants, wide variety of ecosystems, and more. The community is invited to experience the park’s diversity, and explore the beauty of its woodlands, marsh, prairies, and the Kishwaukee River.

Visitors can also view feeding time for the resident birds of prey every Saturday at 1:00 pm, as well as interact with volunteers of the facility’s award-winning Birds of Prey live exhibit, which offers up-close views of raptors, and one of the few accessible treehouses in Illinois.

Birds of prey

This captivating exhibit features up-close views of raptors and is one of the few accessible tree houses in Illinois.

Visitors are welcome to observe, take pictures, and ask questions year-round, or come see the birds get fed every Saturday at 1:00 PM.

Atwood Trails

The trails include approximately five miles of multi-use natural surface trails for beginner and intermediate users.

The trails introduce new hikers, bikers, and cross country skiers to the natural beauty of Seth B. Atwood Park. Donations are appreciated.
