History
From the iconic building to the unfading programs, the Atwood Center is still creating memorable outdoor education experiences, nearly 70 years later!
After Seth B. Atwood donated funds for the Rockford Park District to purchase a section of what used to be Camp Grant for the purpures of environmental education, the Outdoor Recreation and Education Department and Atwood Park were created. Since 1957, the department has been offering a variety of outdoor programs in Atwood Park. Many of the same programs as the early days, such as archery, river study, and team building, are still offered today.
