Birds of Prey

The FREE Birds of Prey exhibit is very special and unique to the Northern Illinois/Southern Wisconsin area. This captivating exhibit features up-close views of raptors and is one of the few accessible tree houses in Illinois. Visitors are welcome to observe, take pictures, and ask questions year-round, or come see the birds get fed every Saturday at 1:00 PM.

The exhibit is a recipient of the Illinois Park & Recreation Association Outstanding Facility & Park Award Winner

Atwood Center has been home to Birds of Prey since 1988. The birds are a critical component of the Rockford Park District’s Outdoor Recreation and Education program. All of the birds located within the exhibit are unable to survive in the wild due to previous injuries or impairments, and are used as aids in the Rockford Park District’s strong environmental message to preserve and enhance natural habitat. The exhibit currently contains a Bald Eagle, Turkey Vulture, Red-tailed Hawk, Barred Owl, an Easter Screech Owl, and two Great Horned Owls.
