America’s Largest State Mountain Bike Series Come to Illinois for the First Time Ever

Wisconsin Off-Road Series #7 – Border Battle Hits Rockford’s Atwood Park

ROCKFORD, IL — For the first time in its 34-year history, the Wisconsin Off-Road Series (WORS), the largest state mountain bike racing series in North America, will cross state lines to host a thrilling weekend of competition in Illinois. Set for July 19–20, 2025, the WORS #7 Border Battle will take place at Atwood Trails, within the Rockford Park District’s Atwood Park, in New Milford and promises an exciting celebration of sport, community, and championship-level racing.

This landmark event doubles as the Illinois Mountain Bike State Championships, where dozens of Illinois riders will compete for top honors in their categories. Organized in partnership with Trek Bicycles, Rockford Park District and GoRockford, the event is open to riders of all backgrounds and ages. The competition is set to bring more than 50 teams, 1,500 riders and spectators, and an estimated economic impact of nearly $130,000 dollars.

Atwood Trails includes approximately five miles of multi-use natural surface trails that run right along the Kishwaukee River and provides the opportunity to incorporate silent sports into camp and residential education programming at Atwood Center,” said Steve Forss, Rockford Park District Trail Maintenance Coordinator. “This is an exciting milestone for Atwood Trails and our community. The newest stretch of trails was developed in 2021 with adventure in mind and continues to grow in popularity, and now they're taking center stage as we welcome riders from near and far to experience Atwood Park’s natural beauty in a whole new way.”

Admission: Free to attend! Race registration: $45 (adults), $35 (juniors)

Other: Camping is available onsite for $15 tent/$25 RV per night or $20 tent/$30 RV for the weekend
